No, neither electrostatic precipitators nor catalytic converters or passive filters are mandatory in Germany. However, it is conceivable that future legislation will set lower limits for wood-burning stoves and fireplaces. A particulate filter would then be the most efficient way to effectively reduce particulate matter (from 2024).
