Dust Collector FAQs: How effective is an electrostatic precipitator?
An electrostatic precipitator can remove a large proportion of particles from the exhaust gas.
If the efficiency is measured by the number of particles, then on average across all manufacturers, over 90% of the particles are removed electrostatically, and around 70% by mass. Separators for stoves and tiled stoves, which do not work electrostatically, usually have a much lower degree of separation. For this reason, the German Federal Ministry for the Environment recognises electrostatic dust collectors as ‘state of the art’ (from summer 2024) and recommends a collection efficiency of over 50% by mass.
