Dust Collector FAQs: What approvals should a dust collector have?

The German Institute for Building Technology (DIBt) issues building approval on the basis of test reports from independent testing institutes. The approval or test specifications include technical details such as the degree of separation (efficiency), the area of application (e.g. pellets and/or logs) for the separator and the corresponding accessories. The electronic control unit must be CE compliant and, as an electrical device, have an IP protection rating. As part of the chimney – as with the chimney itself – it must be tested for temperature resistance and protection against age-related damage (e.g. condensation). Chimney sweeps, tradesmen and homeowners can find this information in the DIBt database (https://www.dibt.de/de/service/zulassungsdownload/suche) or can request it directly from the manufacturer or download it from the website.
