Dust extractor FAQs: Can I hear the vacuum cleaner when it is working?

In principle, the separation of particles is silent, but there are operational noises. If the vacuum cleaner has an automatic cleaning system, you can usually hear the cleaning process. Some units ‘shake’ for a few seconds every few hours during operation as standard. The closer you are to the separator, the clearer you will hear the process. The noise is only audible at the fireplace itself. If the dust collector is equipped with an active chimney fan, the sound of the fan can also be heard as a slight hiss. However, the fan is not on all the time and many appliances have the fan speed controlled so that you will hardly notice it during normal operation. In rare cases, high humidity can cause harmless electrical flashovers, which can be heard for a short time outdoors.
